How can I tell if my computer has a CD burner or not

Q:
How can I tell if my computer has a CD burner or not? Please help!

A:
Oooh, good question! We've actually been getting a lot of e-mails here in the office lately about this very thing. It seems as if a lot of you don't know if your computer has a burner or not and if you're one of them, you've come to the right place. There's a very easy way to check on that and I'm going to show you how right now!

There are a couple of things you can do. For starters, you can open up your CD/DVD ROM drive and look on the front of the tray. There should be some sort of logo written on the very front of the tray telling you if it's a burner or not. If it just says something like "CD Drive," there probably isn't a burner there. If it says CD/DVD R-RW, you do have a burner. That's the easiest way to tell.

The other thing you can do is look in the Device Manager. To get there, right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. Choose Properties and then click on the Hardware tab. Once you're there, click on the Device Manager button and you will be taken to a list of all the hardware you have on your system. Double click on DVD/CD ROM Drive to expand it. If an extension comes up that says something like CD-RW or DVD-RW, you have a burner. If anything comes up at all, you viagra prices uk more than likely already have a burner in your computer.

Once you figure out if you have one or not, you just need some burning software and you can go to town, burning CDs and DVDs as you wish! Some burners are external, so you may have that option as well. Most newer computers automatically come with a burner, but otherwise, you have to request one to be installed. If you don't remember requesting one, you probably don't have one, but use the above guidelines to know for sure!

Pidgin

If you haven't noticed, there are so many different instant messaging programs these days. I mean, there's AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger, Google Talk, IRC Chat and the list goes on and on. That's all good and well, but there's one little problem: all of those IM clients do not talk to each other.

For example, if you have a friend who uses AIM, you have to have AIM as well. If you have a friend who uses MSN Messenger, you need to have MSN Messenger too. And so on and so forth. Doesn't that just seem a little ridiculous to you?

Well, for this week's download, I found a program that simplifies all of that! It's called Pidgin and what it does is combine all the instant messaging programs together into one. All you have to do is install Pidgin onto your computer and enter in your usernames and passwords for the different IM programs you use. Pidgin will then do the rest for you! That way, all you have to worry about is one program and you can still talk to all of your friends, no matter viagra price what instant messenger they use. How cool is that?!

You can download Pidgin for yourself right here. Have fun with it!

Arranging Your Files and Folders

If you’re one who likes to organize your computer files, I have the perfect tip for you today! I will show you a very easy way to arrange your files and folders in Windows XP. By following the steps below, you can change the way your individual files and folders are sorted by using the Arrange Icons option under your My Documents folder. With that, you can sort your files by name, size, file type or date. Then after you sort them, you can arrange them by groups, according to the sorted view. We have a lot to cover, so let’s get started!

1.) First, go to Start, My Documents.

2.) Once you're there, single click on the folder you want to arrange.

3.) Next, go to the toolbar at the top of the page and click View.

4.) Point to Arrange Icons By.

5.) You will then see two groups of options come up, but let's focus on the first one for now. Go ahead and choose the option of your liking: Name, Size, Type or Date Modified.

6.) Now, repeat the process by clicking on the View menu again and pointing to Arrange Icons By. Then choose an arrangement option from the second group of choices you see: Show in Groups, Auto Arrange or Align to Grid.

If you’re confused about which option you should pick, here's a quick rundown of each one:

Name – Alphabetically.

Size – By size, with the largest folder or file listed first.

Type – By type, such as all documents created using Microsoft Word.

Modified – Chronologically in order by the last modification date, with the latest modification date listed last.

Show in Groups – In letter groups by alphabetical order.

Auto Arrange – Automatically viagra prescription uk in orderly rows and columns.

Align to Grid – Automatically in orderly rows and columns by invisible grid points.

7.) Once you choose your two options, your files and folders will be arranged automatically.

That’s all there is to it. Your files and folders are now as organized as can be!

Multiple Categories

Do you use MS Outlook 2007's category colors?

If you do, you're probably like me and you have quite a few different categories, each with its own color code.

Still, I'm sure there are times when you wish you could combine two viagra prescription cost categories together for a single message, without defining yet another new one that's just simply a hybrid of what you already have.

Seems like a waste of time, doesn't it?

Yeah, I thought so too. So, as you can imagine, I was very happy to learn I could assign multiple categories to the same message. And you can too!

All you have to do is right click over the category section of the message listing.

The category list will then open, allowing you to pick an additional category.

You'll find that Outlook puts two category rectangles where there used to be only one.

In fact, if you repeat the process, you can continue adding categories.

So, no more creating new categories just for the sake of combining the ones that already exist. With multiple category labeling, you can mix and match them to your heart's content!

My Recycle Bin icon is gone

Q:
I was looking on my desktop this morning and I realized my Recycle Bin icon is gone! Do you have any viagra prescription canada idea what happened to it or how I can get it back? Please help!

A:
That's a very good question and I promise, you're not the only one this has ever happened to! So, you're telling me that your Recycle Bin icon just disappeared from your desktop. Perhaps it was in place one night before you went to bed, but in the morning when you started up your computer again, it was long gone. Where did it go? What happened to it? But more importantly, how can you get it back? Well, there are a few things you can try to get your Recycle Bin icon back where it's supposed to be. If you've run out of options, give these a try!

The first thing you can do is right click on your desktop and choose Properties. Once you're there, hit the Desktop tab and then click on the Customize Desktop button. In the middle of that box, you will see some of the more common desktop icons. Click on the one for the Recycle Bin (it looks like a trash can) and then hit the Restore Default button. Click OK and then go take a look at your desktop. The Recycle Bin icon should be back, but if it's not, don't lose hope. There are still a couple other things you can try!

For the next option, go down to your taskbar and right click on any open space. >From the menu that pops up, click on Toolbars, Desktop. The word "Desktop" will then appear at the end of your taskbar with a double arrow beside it. Right click on that arrow and you will see an option for the Recycle Bin. Next, drag and drop the Recycle Bin icon to your desktop.

That should reinstate your icon for you, but if you're still having trouble, try this! Right click on your taskbar again and go to Toolbars, New Toolbar. There should be an option there for the Recycle Bin as well. You can then drag and drop that icon to your desktop. Doing any of these three things should bring your Recycle Bin icon back and you can get on with your daily computing. Yes!
