Movie Organizer

Well, I have some great news for everyone who regularly checks out these weekly download articles! This week's just so happens to be a program that helps you organize all of the movies you may have on disk (for example, CD/DVD-R/RW). To be honest, I never really thought about using a program like this until I took a phone call here at the office from someone looking for a piece of software that could organize their movie collection.

My first thought was to just use MS Excel or even a text document program, but my thoughts were really basic in ways of organizing those records. I didn't realize there was software out there that does an outstanding job at this very thing. And better yet, it's all free!

The program is called Movie Organizer and it's from a company called OXD. Basically, it's a database with tons of categories to help you organize your media. Movie Organizer gives you, the user, a mind blowing number of categories and fields in which to input information about your media. You can even go out to MOOD (Movie Organizer Online Database) and download information about your movies to include with it.

You don't need to save the input data to the same database either. You can create a new database for any specific needs you have. All of the editable fields and databases also make the Movie Organizer very searchable. In fact, you can add search criteria to help you narrow down your search.

Here's an example of how this tailored search works. Say you want to find all the movies with John Candy in them. You would start by opening the Search menu, go to Search, select "actor" from the pull down menu in the searchable field and type in Mr. Candy's name. The search will look through that category to find all the John Candy movies and put them in a list. How cool is that?!

And what kind of movie organizing software would this be if it didn't have good printing options? Well, Movie Organizer has you covered with enough printing options to keep even the most meticulous of users more than happy.

The options and flexibility of Movie Organizer are really great and allow you to control the program to suit your specific needs. There is a great Help file located off the main interface as well. I suggest you read through it and do a couple of practice entries, searches and print jobs to get a feel for how the program works. I stress this, because this program uses databases and the saving and search components, in particular, are a little different than what you might be used to. Once you do it a couple times though, it's a snap!

You can download Movie Organizer here.

I ordering cialis hope this program helps you get your media organized and keep it that way!

LogMeIn Hamachi – How It Works

Hamachi is a UDP-based virtual private networking system. Its peers are helped by a third node called a mediation server to locate each other and to bootstrap the connection between them. The connection itself is direct and, once established, no traffic flows through our servers.

Hamachi is not just truly peer-to-peer; it is verifiably secure peer-to-peer.

Hamachi is able to successfully mediate p2p connections in roughly 95% of all cases. This includes peers residing behind various firewalls or broadband routers (aka NAT devices).

Getting Started

If you have not already done so, you will need to download the LogMeIn Hamachi software.

The installation process is straightforward. Once setup has finished, Hamachi detects if you are running the program for the first time and will run a Quick Guide for new users to acquaint themselves with the program basics. By following this guide, you will be set up with a Hamachi address.

For more information, please download our Getting Started Guide. (pdf)

Creating a Network

Using Hamachi begins with the creation of a network. You do this by selecting the Networks button and then the Create new network option.

In the Create new network dialog box, you will need to name your network and create a password. The network name should be unique and is limited to 64 characters in length. The password – or pass phrase – should be something that only you know and is very hard to guess – the security of your network is dependent on it. There is no limit to the length of the passphrase. Once you have done this, click Create and non prescription cialis the network now appears in the Hamachi client.

Joining a Network

The next step is to have other computers join you network. On a computer other than the one used to create the network, click on the Networks button. In the menu that appears, select Join existing network.

The Quick Guide gives you an example network to join, however, in the above example, the name and passphrase of another network: MyPrivateNetwork, have been entered. The next step is to select Join. The network then appears in the Hamachi client, showing that you have joined it.

Leaving a Network

Leaving a network created by someone else is done by right clicking on a network in the client, and selecting Leave network.

Deleting a Network

If you wish to leave a network that you created the situation is significantly different. In this case, you are not leaving a network, but deleting it. Be careful with this option, as it will completely sever all connections between other members of that network and the action is irreversible.

It is done by right clicking on your network and selecting Delete network. Once you confirm the action, the network will disappear from your client and that of every other network peer.

Rainlendar

I get a ton of e-mails asking for Web sites with desktop wallpaper that features the current month’s calendar. Well, I’ve gone one step further and I’ve found a site that offers a free download of a desktop calendar that is very customizable!

I have to tell you, I’m already in love with it! Not only can you have a moveable calendar on your desktop, but you can set up to-do lists and keep track of important upcoming events.

To download it, go to Downloads and select Rainlendar from the drop down menu. Or, you can just click into the section and download it from there. It is available for Windows (2000 and higher) and Linux. They even provide installation instructions.

You may have noticed on the drop down menu for Downloads that there was a listing for Skins. With those, you can customize your calendar even more by making it look the way you like it. I’m just using the default option, because I think it’s pretty sleek, but there are 26 pages of skins to go through, so if you decide to go that route, you have plenty to choose from.

If you run into a snag, try checking out the F.A.Q. section. There were a lot of really great questions answered there, but if you don’t find what you're looking for, you can also hit the forum and try asking there.

Basically, I installed the Rainlendar, double clicked its icon to start it and the calendar instantly appeared on my screen. Just drag the calendar where you want to put it on your desktop with your mouse.

To create a new event, just right click the calendar and choose New Event. That will open the event window where you can title your events, set the date and time and even set up an alarm so that you don’t forget to do something!

To make an entry on the To-Do list, right click the calendar and select New Task. Then just fill out the title. Also, in the large text list, you can put a listing or description of what all needs to be done. You can then mouse over that event on the To-Do list and it will bring up the details for you.

I hope you all love this Web site as much as I already do!
